I have been working at KB Tuition since January 2013. After gaining an honours degree from Durham University and a staff management career at John Lewis plc, I began working in education in the Learning Support Department at St Benedict’s School in Cheltenham, teaching and implementing the Government’s Literacy Pilot Scheme to Year 7 children, and supporting children with special educational needs across the school through the National Curriculum. I then worked for 2 years at Cheltenham College before moving to Gloucestershire College to work as an ESOL teacher. I now have over 18 years’ experience of working in education and have taught in Adult and Further Education Colleges, Secondary Schools, Primary Schools, 1:1, and in the community. I served as a school governor for 10 years. In addition I have been a registered examiner for Cambridge University ESOL Exams Department and have also worked as a trainer, teacher and observer of trainee teachers for the University of the West of England.
I have 3 children and wide, personal and direct experience of Gloucestershire grammar, state and independent schools.
At the core of my teaching ethos is the belief that a confident, secure child will become a successful person. Achieving success and maintaining self-esteem is paramount in achieving potential.
I use multi-sensory approaches and encourage both practical and lateral thinking, including brain training activities and problem solving scenarios, finding patterns and clues to solve mental challenges.
I constantly update and refine resources and teaching aids so that the students are always offered the best opportunities for their needs.
In addition, I offer Mock Exams and 11+ Holiday Coaching to ensure that the children are as fully prepared and ready for the challenges of the 11+ exam as possible.
